Solar Industry Advances: Newly Installed Capacity in March Totals 1,099 MW

2024-05-29

The Federal Network Agency recently released preliminary figures for the expansion of renewable energy in March. The augmentation of photovoltaics remains steady, while wind energy's progress continues at a slower pace.

According to fresh data from the Federal Network Agency, drawn from an evaluation of the Market Master Data Register, Germany's solar power augmentation amounted to 1,099 MW in March 2024. For the first time in several months, photovoltaics expansion experienced a mild contraction compared to the same month last year, when the Market Master Data Register recorded over 1,200 MW. Typically, post-registration adjustments cause a rise in the augmentation value, implying that last year's record could still be surpassed. Four weeks ago, the Federal Network Agency estimated February 2024's solar installation increase at 1,071 MW. The current figures now suggest a rise of 1,145 MW.

Even though the first photovoltaic plants reached the end of their State-Controlled Renewable Energies Act (EEG) funding several years ago, the Federal Network Agency's statistics reveal no noticeable reduction, with only solar rooftop installations amounting to 1.5 MW decommissioned in March. The agency's expansion of solar energy still significantly mirrors its net intake, with room for progress. To achieve the federal government's expansion goal, the monthly newly installed solar capacity needs to be 1,585 MW.

The majority of the solar expansion in March 2024 was benefits-eligible solar systems placed on buildings and other structures. Solar ground-mounted systems from the tenders constitute the second-largest segment. Plus, a trend towards an increasing number of solar ground-mounted systems not needing subsidies surfaced over the past 12 months, making it the third-largest segment in March 2024.

Wind Energy: Expansion Still Running Below Target

In comparison to photovoltaics, net additions of terrestrial wind power were considerably lower in March 2024, amounting to 217 MW. The latest figure for February of 218 MW fell almost in line with the total given by the Federal Network Agency four weeks ago at 220 MW. However, to reach the targeted figure of 115 GW by 2030, additions need to amount to 659 MW per month. The Federal Network Agency had reduced the volume of onshore wind tenders recently.

No new offshore wind power plants were commissioned in March. With 30 GW of offshore wind power scheduled for 2030, the requirement would be 266 GW monthly. However, since offshore projects are quite large and require a considerable lead time, the expansion proceeds in stages, making monthly evaluations less insightful.

Bioenergy experienced a growth of 10 MW in March. The Federal Network Agency increased the growth figure for February 2024 from 6 to 8 MW based on current data. To achieve the 8.4 GW goal set for 2030, the federal government plans a slight reduction in bioenergy, amounting to 8 MW per month.

The Role of Home Energy Storage in Renewable Energy Expansion

As Germany advances its renewable energy infrastructure, the integration of home energy storage systems is crucial. Home energy storage solutions, particularly home energy storage batteries, play a vital role in managing the energy generated from renewable sources like solar power.

Batteries for home energy storage are pivotal in supporting the federal government's ambitious renewable energy goals. By adopting advanced home energy storage battery systems, households can reduce their dependence on the grid, lower energy costs, and contribute to a more sustainable energy future.

With the steady growth of solar power installations, the demand for reliable home energy backup storage solutions is on the rise. ACE Battery's innovative lithium and LiFePO4 batteries are well-suited to meet this demand, providing durable and efficient storage options for residential energy storage system.

As Germany continues to expand its renewable energy capacity, the role of home energy storage systems becomes increasingly significant. These systems not only aid in achieving energy independence for households but also play a crucial part in stabilizing the national grid, ensuring a consistent and reliable supply of clean energy.
