Across the length and breadth of the US, an exciting milestone has been reached in terms of solar energy and its role in curbing climate change. The country has passed the 5 million solar installations mark, a significant accomplishment, considering it took four decades for it to achieve one million installations from the inception of the first grid-connected solar installation in 1973. By contrast, it has taken a mere eight years to achieve this last four million setups.
Fascinating data disclosed by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Wood Mackenzie reveal a vigorous momentum in solar installations. Over half of these setups have sprung up since 2020. They further show that over one-fourth cropped up since the Inflation Reduction Act’s implementation a mere 20 months ago. These solar installations span both residential and commercial infrastructure, apart from impressive large-scale ground-mounted systems scattered nationwide.
SEIA's President and CEO, Abigail Ross Hopper, offered clarity on why solar energy installations are escalating at this pace. "Solar power wins hearts and minds as it effectively lowers electricity costs, strengthens community resilience, and opens up economic prospects," she stated. Moreover, she sheds light on the increasingly critical role of solar energy in the power matrix, emphasizing that “Solar energy is fast transforming into the primary source of electricity, offering communities cleaner air and a healthier habitat.”
As of today, 7% of American homes utilize solar power. Hopper asserts that this figure will catapult to over 15% by 2030.
State policy changes notwithstanding, market indicators predict robust growth in solar installations from coast to coast. The SEIA posits that by another decade, these installations will double to 10 million, and a whopping 15 million by 2034.
A noteworthy trend is that an overwhelming 97% of all US solar installations are in the residential sector. These residential setups have consistently hit a record high for five years straight, and ten out of the previous dozen years.
Currently, 11 US states along with territories boast over 100,000 solar systems installed. California maintains a substantial lead with 2 million setups, but recent policy measures of the state have somewhat impacted the rooftop solar market. However, other states like Illinois, once a nascent market of 2,500 setups in 2017, has seen a surge to 87,000 systems today. The 'sunshine state' Florida mirrors this growth, skyrocketing from 22,000 setups in 2017 to a staggering 235,000 installations today.
By 2030, it is projected that 22 states or territories will surpass the 100,000 solar installation mark. Presently, the US has enough solar setups to cover every residential rooftop in the four corners of the States - Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. The future of solar energy in the US indeed looks radiant!
As solar energy adoption continues to surge across the United States, an essential component of maximizing its benefits is efficient energy storage. Solar energy storage systems allow for the capture and retention of excess energy generated during peak sunlight hours, which can then be used during periods when the sun isn’t shining, such as at night or during cloudy days. This ensures a continuous and reliable power supply, reducing dependency on the traditional power grid and enhancing energy security.
In the landscape of advanced energy storage solutions, ACE Battery stands out with its innovative and efficient products designed to meet both residential and commercial needs. ACE Battery’s ESS systems ensure that the energy generated from solar panels is stored effectively and can be utilized whenever necessary, thus enhancing the overall efficiency and reliability of solar power systems.
