Picture this: massive solar panels installed on the Water and Sewerage Services Operations Depot, all connected to other installations in the Bega area. It's like the Avengers but for solar energy. This is the council's most impressive solar energy site so far.
Steve Marshall, the Water and Sewerage Services Manager, is beaming with excitement about this project. Not only does it make the council eligible for fancy-sounding certificates, but it also generates a whopping 300MW-hours of energy annually! That's enough to power 40 average Australian homes for a whole year, or the fuel capacity of 685 cars. Talk about energy!
But let's not forget about Mother Earth. Marshall stressed the environmental impact of this project, boasting about the 60 tonnes of coal it saves from the energy generation process every single year. That's a seriously impressive contribution to environmental sustainability.
And this solar array isn't the first rodeo for the council. They've already installed two other solar energy sites on their water and sewerage assets. They're on a roll!
To make matters even better, the council has partnered with local contractors to bring solar energy to more Water and Sewerage sites. It's like a renewable energy revolution!
This achievement is in line with the council's big plans. They've committed to a 10-year power purchase agreement with Red Energy and six regional councils to reach their goal of 100 percent renewable energy by 2030. They mean business!
So, kudos to the Bega Valley Shire Council for not only talking the talk but walking the walk when it comes to sustainability. They're making sure their energy game is on point, saving the planet one solar panel at a time. Can we get a standing ovation, please?
